Pre School

Pre school programs are offered for ages 3-5.  There are no fees for these activities.  Generally  programs stress early childhood development with an emphasis on both fine and gross motor skills.

Youth

Activities for youth ages 6-17 focus on individual and team sports.  Emphasis is placed on socialization skills through a variety of programs that encourage good sportsmanship and communication.  Through these activities youth are afforded the opportunity to fine tune their leisure time into productive and acceptable group behaviors.

Adults

Programs for adults encourage healthy lifestyles with classes in the popular exercise regimens such as yoga, Tai-Bo and aerobics as well as league sports. Special seasonal craft workshops and day trips round out the adult leisure menu.

Seniors

An extensive array of activities are provided for senior citizens.  Again, health and fitness for the older population is enhanced through such activities as yoga, Tai Chi Ch'uan, tennis lessons, bowling, tap and line dancing, golf, swimming, and exercise classes.  For the less active senior, passive activities including oil painting, decorative crafts, sewing and the ever popular day trips serve to complete the roster.

Special Needs

The Department is one of the very few in the state of Rhode Island to provide year round recreational activities for individuals who are physically and/or mentally challenged.  A seven week summer day camp for youth is offered at no cost to residents.  Adults have the opportunity to participate on a weekly basis in programs that encompass passive and active leisure arts.  There is no fee to engage in these activities.  The Department offers door- to- door transportation for all special needs programs and our 21 passenger bus is wheelchair accessible.  A medical release form is required.
